The bitter melon or bitter gourd is the bitterest of all vegetables known to humanity, but it’s also the most medicinally effective. Though bitter, its fruit is eaten as a vegetable and can be used to create several mouthwatering dishes particularly in India. In India, the bitter gourd is referred to as the karela. Its biological title is Momordica charantia.

Description

Propriétés

Bitter melon is a valuable vegetable. It’s beneficial in most physiological and metabolic processes of the human body. It has the following properties:-

      • Le melon amer est composé de différentes substances chimiques qui ont une activité hypoglycémique, c'est-à-dire qu'elles diminuent la quantité de sucre dans le sang.

      • Le melon amer a des propriétés émétiques, purgatives et anthelmétiques. De plus, il est anti-flatulent.
      • Bitter melon is used in the dissolution of fats in the body. It’s known to have anti-lipolytic properties.
      • Le melon amer possède toutes les vitamines vitales en bonne quantité, comme la vitamine A, la thiamine, la riboflavine, la vitamine C et aussi des minéraux comme le fer.
      • Le melon amer est anti-inflammatoire et astringent. Il a une action spécifique sur le transit intestinal.

Utilise

      • Anorexia – Bitter melon is an appetite stimulant. Hence it is used in the treatment of anorexia, a disease in which a man is not able to consume the required amount of food.
      • Blood Impurities – Bitter gourd is used as a blood purifier because of the bitter tonic properties. It may cure boils and other blood related issues that appear on the skin. For therapy, a cupful of the juice of the bitter melon has to be taken every day in the morning, using a teaspoon of the juice of the citrus lemon inside.
      • Diabetes Mellitus – A lot has been written recently about the very beneficial facets of bitter melon in treating diabetes.
