Alternative health care is a holistic means of caring for our body, mind and soul. It is known as alternative because it provides a method of caring for our health that’s not conventional or what we are accustomed to at the Western world.

Differences between Alternative and Western Medicines

In that the Western world caring for our wellbeing is done largely by the management of medications, many of which are artificial, produced from sources that are derivatives of character, not natural in the immediate sense. A simple example will make this clear.

Most people in the older bracket of age are knowledgeable about aspirin. I recall when I was a kid, if I had a headache my dad gave me aspirin to drink. When I had a fever, he would give me also aspirin. Aspirin is a medication in conventional medicine. Aspirin is acetylsalicylic acid. It is a synthetic drug, meaning, it’s a drug synthesized from certain acids, principally salicylic acid. The natural resource for this is the willow bark. But that the willow bark itself isn’t used, just a derivative from this, the salicylic acid.

In other healthcare we don’t administer aspirin. The person that has a headache might just need rest. So, we tell him to take a break. If he has fever, this might be a consequence of something he has eaten. So we tell him to drink loads of water to wash out what he’s eaten.

Illness in body, mind and soul

Secondly this alternative healthcare is holistic. It doesn’t handle the body only, but also with the mind or soul, and the spirit. In conventional healthcare people believe that illness is a physical illness. So the ill person wants a material medicine to treat his physical condition. He feels pain in his joints, so he’s recognized to have flu. And that he is given a medication to counteract this flu, usually an analgesic, any synthetic drug which relieves pain.

In other healthcare we don’t just examine the body, but we also inquire into the head of the individual and consider her or his degree of spirituality. We don’t just look after the illness when it strikes but we also take precaution which it doesn’t strike in any way.

When a individual experiences headache we ask that person whether he’s present anxieties and worries, whether his or her religious belief is strong enough at a God who cares and who could be depended upon at all times.

Actually we’d alternative healthcare from the start of our race, because there were no synthetic drugs then. But with the arrival of these drugs we slowly forgot alternative healthcare in favor of conventional medicine.

One reason was that traditional medicine was quick and predictable. You do not need to look for the herb and then boil it and make a mix from it. You just go to the pharmacy, present the prescription your doctor gave you, get the medication from the pharmacist or his/her aide and cover for it. Upon reaching home, you just take the medication. It is so convenient.

The current experience of people taking conventional drugs is that they may lead to dependence on these drugs and larger doses may be necessary upon subsequent intakes.

Furthermore there are bad effects in taking these drugs. These happen particularly with antibiotic medication. So people started to search for alternative methods of healing, one that’s not heavily dependent on synthetic drugs and one that heals body, soul and spirit so that the individual really become whole.

Alternative Methods

Some of the methods of other healthcare might be enumerated thus:

Rest, water therapy, pranic healing, hypnosis, acupuncture and acupressure, herbs, magnetic therapy, chiropractic medicine, reflexology, biofeedback, dieting, massage treatment, aromatherapy, carmenbees synchrotheraphy, mind healing, and spiritual healing.
